CHO 83 Bevel Helical Gear Unit (Ø35 mm output shaft)

Bevel Helical Gearboxes

CHO 83 bevel helical gear unit — Chiaravalli's helical hypoid series, made to replace worm gearboxes where efficiency matters (especially at high ratios): high efficiency, low noise, low running temperature, interchangeable with the worm units. Three-stage version with pre-stage (ratios 75:1 to 300:1), aluminium housing painted grey RAL 9022, universal mounting. Standard IEC motor input (B5 or B14 flange) through a coupling — fits standard, brake and explosion-proof motors, and suits inverter drives. Hollow output shaft, Ø35 mm H8 bore; optional output flanges FA-FE and single / double output shafts (see the dimension sheet). Supplied with mineral oil for the B3 mounting position — tell us if you mount it differently, the fill quantity changes; the pre-stage runs in synthetic oil and needs no breather plug. Fits IEC 63, 71, 80, 90 motors — the catalogue lists motors from 0.25 to 1.1 kW for this size.

Supplied without motor. You are choosing the gear unit only — ask us to quote a suitable motor together with it if you'd like both.

How to pick from the table: with a standard 4-pole motor (1400 r/min), the ratio sets the output speed — e.g. ratio 75:1 gives 19 r/min at the output shaft. Choose the row whose output speed and torque match your application, then the flange that matches your motor (the frame size and shaft diameter are on the motor's nameplate). The Motor column lists the motors that fit that row — pick yours and the output torque and service factor update to match. Radial load Fr2 is the permissible load on the output shaft at that ratio. More in the Selection Guide tab below.

Typical use: drives where energy saving matters, and electric motors run from inverters.

Product Information

Motor pole count

All table figures assume a 4-pole motor (1400 r/min input) — the standard choice for most applications. A 2-pole motor (2800 r/min) doubles the output speed and a 6-pole motor (900 r/min) reduces it, and the power and torque ratings change with them — if you're running anything other than 4-pole, contact us and we'll size it for you.

Service factor — the number that decides how long your gearbox lives

It's the safety margin between what the gearbox can handle and what the motor asks of it: 1.0 means the gearbox works exactly at its rated limit; higher means reserve capacity — a cooler, quieter drive and a much longer life. As a guide: smooth, steady loads (light conveyors, centrifugal pumps) are fine near 1.0; moderate loads (heavier conveyors, packing machines) deserve 1.3 or more; heavy duty (mixers, bucket elevators, frequent starts, long running hours) should sit at 1.5–2.0.

If the service factor turns red after you pick a motor, that combination is below 1.0 — the motor can overload the gearbox in continuous use. It may be acceptable for light, intermittent duty, but for anything continuous choose a smaller motor, a different ratio, or the next gearbox size up — or ask us and we'll size it with you.
